Get ready for a frighteningly fun time as Newport rolls out a spectacular lineup of Halloween events for all ages this October! Whether you’re hunting for scares, sweet treats, or the perfect pumpkin, there’s something for everyone.
Brave the Haunted Woods
The scares kick off with the return of the Haunted Woods at Prouty Beach Campground. Something mysterious is afoot, with reports of missing people and things! Gather your courage and help solve the mystery on October 24th and 25th. Gates open at 7:00 PM, with the last group on the trail at 9:30 PM. Admission is $5 per person or $15 per carload. Please note this event is suggested for ages 10 and up, as it’s not appropriate for small children.
Show Off Your Carving Skills
Before the big night, gear up for the Pumpkin Palooza on October 25th. Bring your carved masterpiece for display and judging at the Parklet next to the municipal building between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM on the 25th.
A Day Full of Treats and Fun
The afternoon of the 25th is packed with fun! Trick-or-treating runs from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM at participating downtown businesses (like Goodrich Memorial Library and The Witches Brew) and a Trunk-or-Treat in the municipal parking lot, hosted by the Knights of Columbus (KofC). The KofC will also host a spooky gym with free hot dogs and mac and cheese for kids! The day culminates at 2:45 PM with a costume contest and then the announcement of winners for both the costumes and pumpkins at 3:00 PM.
Safety First for Halloween Night
The Newport City Police Department wants to ensure a safe Halloween night. While there are no scheduled trick-or-treating hours, parents are urged to use their best judgment.
Remember to prioritize costume safety—ensure costumes are fire-resistant and visible, perhaps with reflective tape or a flashlight. For trick-or-treating, an adult should accompany young children, and older children should plan a safe, well-lit route and stick with friends. Drivers are reminded to be vigilant for children, especially at twilight.
Have a safe and happy Halloween!
