Mark your calendars for Friday evening, October 16, and Saturday, October 17! This is your chance to help shape the future of Newport and share your ideas about making our community a hub for four-season outdoor recreation in the Northeast Kingdom.
We’re bringing people together for a two-day community workshop to create a strategic plan for Newport’s future. What opportunities should we be exploring? How can we make the most of our beautiful natural surroundings? And just as importantly, what kind of growth do we want, and what changes would we rather avoid?
These are important conversations, and we want everyone to have a chance to be part of them.
Newport has been selected to participate in the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities program, giving us an opportunity to think carefully about how outdoor recreation can support our downtown, local businesses and the community as a whole.
The workshop is free and open to everyone, thanks to grant funding from the EPA to Newport Downtown Development. You don’t need any special knowledge or experience to participate. Just bring your ideas, your perspective and your interest in Newport’s future.
Here’s when and where we’ll be gathering:
Friday, October 16: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. (program begins at 6 p.m.)
Saturday, October 17: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Location: Gateway Center, 84 Fyfe Drive, Newport, VT
You’re welcome to attend all or any part of the workshop. Advance registration is encouraged to help with planning, but it’s not required.

This is our community, and its future should reflect the voices of the people who live, work and spend time here. We hope you’ll join us and be part of the conversation!
