Newport’s Newest Venue for Art, Music, and Antiques

Jul 14, 2023

There’s a new player on Main Street, and it’s bringing a totally new vibe with two visions in one. J Nicholas is running the Second Hand Treasures shop at 125 Main Street started by Joe Warren last spring.

He’s added a lot more stock to the great collection Joe had started, with lots of items that are functional and have an antique feel to them but priced for folks on a budget.

And – as that part of the business generates some income, he’s building a soundproofed stage area in the back of the shop for small venue music and comedy performers.

They’re already offering lessons in guitar and drums for all ages on Monday evenings, which they’re calling “Rock Camp,” and they’re hoping to offer an art club for folks to experiment as well.

The last couple of Wednesdays they’ve offered an outdoor open mic on the sidewalk as a part of Wednesdays on Main.

That project, as it begins to take off, will happen under the name “The Crooked Stripe.” This is the kind of funky, downhome vibe that Newport’s striving for: No pretensions – just folks hanging out and helping other folks.

They’re looking for donations of any musical instruments, so check your closets for the old guitar or saxophone your kids used to play and drop by to see the great furniture they’re selling.
