What is the best part of the bike path in Newport?
My oldest son plays football for North Country High School, which is right on the lakeside bike trail. It’s proximity to the football field allows me to drop him off for practices and offers me the opportunity to hop on the path.
What’s great about cycling in the area?
Newport has something to offer for all kinds of riders. The bike path offers a gorgeous and safe alternative for recreational riders. Memphremagog Trails has laid down some challenging single track trails for mountain bikers and the endless gravel roads and hill climbs of surrounding areas are perfect for gravel grinding folks. There is newly completed section of the Bluffside trails that take you up and over some wetlands to connect to Prouty Beach. So many choices.
What is your favorite restaurant in Newport?
Because I’m an early to bed, early to rise kinda person, the Brown Cow delivers a proper belly full to fuel any ride. And when I’m in need of a downtown breakfast or lunch after my ride, I’ll stop at Newport Natural Cafe for the the “Lil Donkey” (yams, black beans, rice, cheddar and cilantro). Perfection!
What’s Newport’s best kept secret?
I’m not sure it’s a secret but as a native to Newport I’m not sure we ever pay enough homage to Lake Memphremagog and all her natural beauty.
What’s a favorite local brew pub?
The T Bar is the perfect stop, right off the bike path with plenty of Vermont brews on tap. And don’t forget an order of Smothered Tater Tots!
