If you are excited about the work that Newport Downtown Development does to create and promote events for both visitors and locals, and you’re open to part-time employment – read on!
Newport Downtown Development is looking for the ideal candidate to be our new Director of Programs and Promotions. When we think of this person, we are imagining an “Architect of Experiences” who will manage the many events we support throughout the year and expand the space we created for Winter Saturdays at The Tasting Center on Main Street into an active, year-round venue for downtown Newport.
This will start as a half-time position, with a lot of variability in the weekly schedule. In addition to managing NDD’s regular program work, this person will create an active schedule of music, community gatherings, private rentals, and seasonal events. They will also be responsible for developing NDD’s social media content, working with local print media, and managing our semi-regular show with NEK TV.
This half-time position offers a salary of $25,000 with the possibility of performance bonuses or profit sharing on events and a path to grow into a 3/4-time or greater position. If you are a parent looking for a way back into the world of adults, or you are juggling care for other family members or another part-time job, this may be what you’re looking for.
Our ideal candidate will be super creative, a skilled organizer and self-starter, and a people person who knows how to bring out the best in volunteers who work with NDD as their passion project. Prior event or hospitality experience or a degree in a related field is helpful, and a genuine connection to Newport and deep desire to see our downtown thrive is a must.
This position will be supervised by NDD Director Rick Ufford-Chase and supported by a passionate crew of board members and community volunteers. There are identifiable goals that must be met, but there is also a lot of room to bring your own style and approach to the work.
If you dream of making a difference and improving your community, email rickuc@nddvt.org with a cover letter that explains your qualifications and why you think you are the perfect person for this job, along with a resume that highlights relevant experience and lists at least three references. The position will be filled by the first exceptional candidate.
