Grab your hiking boots or snow shoes because no matter which direction you head from Newport, there are over 38 beautiful, well maintained and accessible four-season trails for ALL abilities. Hiking is a great activity for every age and a low-cost, simple way to access the natural NEK beauty whether you are visiting for a weekend or an entire season.
The Green Mountain Club was founded over 110 years ago and is the longest, continuous hiking trail in the United States, stretching 272 miles from the Massachusetts to Canadian border.
This trail celebrates Vermont’s Green Mountains and entices adventurers from all over the world. Even though the Long Trail is not technically in the Northeast Kingdom, we are proud to be one of the 14 sections of the GMC who are active in four-season hiking and volunteer trail maintenance.
Within easy striking distance from Newport, visitors have a choice of trails like Mt. Pisgah or Mt. Hor overlooking beautiful Willoughby Lake or for those who like a little challenge there’s Middle, Bald or Wheeler Mountains.
There are also easy rambles for those who like to take it easy or who are introducing small children to the wonderful world of
hiking.
In short, there’s something for everyone! Membership is not a requirement to join one of our hikes.
