Over the last few years, lots of folks have expressed frustration that the businesses on E Main St. are not considered part of Newport’s Designated Downtown.
Although it was a State requirement that we focus on Main Street and the Waterfront Plaza in our effort to build out a vibrant and walkable downtown area, it’s also true that some of Newport’s most important and vibrant businesses are on the lower end of East Main.
As a result, NDD’s Board has asked us to fog the distinction a little bit. We’re working to include all the E. Main Street businesses in the Shop and Dine section on the new website we’ll be rolling out later this month, and we’ve intentionally expanded the Downtown Dollars program to include those businesses as well.
