Downtown Newport to Sparkle with Annual Hometown Holidays Celebration

Get ready to embrace the magic of the season as Downtown Newport hosts its beloved Hometown Holidays celebration on Saturday, December 6th. This festive, all-day event, presented by Newport Downtown Development, North Country Chamber of Commerce, and Newport Parks & Recreation, is packed with activities designed to bring the community together and create lasting memories for the whole family.

The festivities officially kick off at 1:00 PM with a wonderful afternoon lineup. Families are invited to head to Pomerleau Park to board the NEK Polar Express Train. These popular rides are available on a walk-up basis only until 4:00 PM, and attendees can warm up with a complimentary cup of hot chocolate.

Simultaneously, the Goodrich Memorial Library will transform into a North Pole outpost. Children can gather for a special reading of the holiday classic, The Polar Express, and then take time to write and mail their all-important letters to Santa.

This is also a perfect opportunity to support Newport’s local economy. Throughout the afternoon, participating downtown businesses will be holding Holiday Sales. Residents are encouraged to stroll, shop, and find unique gifts while enjoying the festive atmosphere.

As the sun begins to set, the celebration moves into its magical evening phase. From 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, families can take a drive through the enchanting Drive-Thru Light Display at Gardner Park.

The main event happens at 4:00 PM at Pomerleau Park with the official Tree Lighting. This beloved tradition will be made even more special by the arrival of Santa and his reindeer, who will be there to greet children and kick off the season in style.

The day’s celebration culminates at 5:00 PM with the spectacular Light Up the Night Parade down Main Street. Residents and visitors are invited to find a spot and watch as festive floats and community groups illuminate the downtown.

This entire event is free and open to the public.
