Join us on November 1 & 2, 2024, for BORDERS – A Poetry Symposium, a two-day celebration of the power of language and the art of poetry, held in the historic border town setting of Derby Line, VT, and Stanstead, QC. This event promises to immerse you in the rich tapestry of words that know no borders, featuring poetry readings, workshops, and vibrant discussions in both French and English.
Poetry Readings at the Haskell Opera House
The symposium kicks off with poetry readings at the Haskell Opera House, a venue known for its unique position straddling the U.S.-Canada border. On Friday, November 1, local poets will take the stage at 7:00 p.m., sharing their unique voices and stories. The next evening, on Saturday, November 2, more renowned poets will share their work, offering a rich blend of perspectives and styles. A suggested donation of $15.00 is encouraged for those attending the readings.
Workshops to Inspire and Engage
Saturday, November 2, is a day of interactive workshops, offering attendees the chance to deepen their appreciation of poetry and refine their craft. Held in both Derby Line, VT, and Stanstead, QC, the workshops will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. These sessions are led by published poets from Vermont and Quebec, each bringing their unique expertise to the table:

- History of Poetry in the Eastern Townships of Quebec with Steve Luxton – FREE

- Frontières Atelier d’écriture poétique avec Flavia Garcia
- Poetry for Kids with the Haskell Library Staff – FREE
The workshop fee is $10.00, making this a wonderful opportunity for both seasoned poets and newcomers to explore new creative horizons.
