Annual Bike Rodeo Rolls Out a Day of Fun and Learning

Families, cyclists, and community members gathered at North Country Hospital on Sunday for Newport’s much-anticipated Annual Bike Rodeo. The free event delivered a lively day packed with cycling activities, safety education, and hands-on fun for riders of all ages.

Participants took on a dynamic skills course to sharpen their bike handling abilities, while newer riders found encouragement and support in the “Learn to Ride” area. One of the day’s highlights was the popular “Pedal Power Smoothies” station, where attendees blended their own drinks using bike-powered blenders.

Throughout the event, local bike mechanics provided free safety checks and advice, and a variety of adaptive bikes were on display, highlighting inclusive cycling options. Helmet fitting stations ensured riders were properly geared up, and a science booth added an educational twist to the day’s activities. Attendees also had the chance to enter a free raffle for kids’ bicycles and test out e-bikes with guidance from experienced riders.

Thanks to a fleet of borrowable bikes, even those without their own wheels were able to participate. Community spirit was evident throughout the event, made possible by the support of sponsors including Community National Bank, Passumpsic Bank, Farm-to-School, VEEP (Vermont Energy Education Program), the Vermont Department of Health, the City of Newport Recreation Committee, the Newport Police Department, North Country Hospital, and Newport Bicycle Parts & Service.

The rodeo served as another reminder of Newport’s strong commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles and safe cycling practices. Organizers are already looking ahead to next year’s event, with hopes of welcoming even more riders to the growing tradition.
