Jan 24, 2024

Introduction:

Are you passionate about ecological restoration and water quality? Do you dream of a career where your work directly contributes to preserving and enhancing natural landscapes? If yes, then the Memphremagog Watershed Association (MWA) has an exciting opportunity for you!

About MWA:

MWA, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is at the forefront of watershed conservation efforts. We are dedicated to working alongside landowners and stakeholders with a clear mission: “to protect the best and restore the rest.” Our work balances ecological needs with societal interests, focusing on the picturesque Memphremagog, Coaticook, and Tomifobia basins in the idyllic Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

The Role:

We are currently seeking a Restoration Ecologist or Watershed Scientist with at least two years of experience in ecological restoration projects. This role is pivotal in identifying, developing, funding, designing, permitting, and implementing Clean Water projects in line with the Memphremagog TMDL and the Basin 17 Tactical Basin Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct riparian, geomorphic, and aquatic organism passage assessments.

Develop projects targeting phosphorus reduction and aquatic habitat enhancement.

Assist in project development across various sectors, including agricultural and stormwater management.

Manage projects from conceptualization to implementation, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.

Your Contribution:

Your work will not only contribute to the health and sustainability of our watersheds but also enhance our reputation as a leader in watershed planning and restoration. You will be part of a team that values interdisciplinary collaboration, working closely with partners, consultants, and agency staff.

Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields, proficient in fieldwork and technical tools like ArcGIS Pro and CAD. Experience in ecological processes, technical writing, and communication is crucial. A valid driver’s license is necessary, as the role involves local fieldwork.

Our Commitment:

MWA offers a competitive salary, starting at $22+ per hour, negotiable based on experience. We value our employees’ well-being, providing paid holidays, vacation days, and sick leave. The role is based in Newport, VT, with a mix of field and office work, and options for a hybrid-remote schedule are available.

Application Process:

Ready to make a difference? Apply by submitting your resume and cover letter to Patrick Hurley at phurley@mwavt.org. We strongly encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply, as we are an equal opportunity employer.

Conclusion:

This is more than a job; it’s a chance to be part of something meaningful. If you have a passion for the environment and a drive to contribute to significant ecological restoration work, we would love to hear from you. Join us at MWA and be a part of preserving and restoring the beauty and health of Vermont’s watersheds.
