Local artist Alyssa DeLaBruere, known not just for her artistic prowess but also her active role in advocating for the environment, brings to life her experiences of the lake over the course of 100 days. From summer to autumn of 2023, she has painstakingly captured the essence of Lake Memphremagog in her paintings, mixed media works, and prints. What’s incredibly captivating is her methodology; often sketching or painting directly from her kayak, Alyssa brings forth images and perspectives that many might miss on a casual observation.

A firm believer in the idea that “appreciation leads to awareness, and awareness leads to action,” DeLaBruere isn’t a novice when it comes to combining art with activism. Her 2017 initiative, “Postcards from the Parks”, saw her journeying across America, using her art to raise awareness and funds for the preservation of our National Parks and public lands.

Returning to her roots with this exhibition, she collaborates with D.U.M.P. and the Memphremagog Watershed Association, shining a spotlight on their commendable efforts to protect and conserve Lake Memphremagog. Visitors to the exhibition will not only be treated to Alyssa’s artworks but will also gain insights into the vital work these organizations do.

To further support the cause, Alyssa is generously pledging 20 percent of the proceeds from sales of original paintings and prints from the exhibition towards these organizations. It’s a testament to her commitment towards conservation and her love for the environment.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast, an environmentalist, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of Lake Memphremagog, this exhibition promises a fusion of visual pleasure and environmental consciousness.
